Realization: develop the intention #
Realization develops intention into material. “Courage includes mercy” permits many choices. In our reading of The Hobbit, sparing Gollum tests that commitment under danger.
When developing your own movie, use this movement from intention to choices to explore what could happen. When analyzing a book, check those choices against its passages; generated alternatives belong to a new writing proposal.
Abstraction: read the implications #
Abstraction reads concrete evidence back into an account of meaning. A leap supports escape; sparing an enemy adds a possible reading of compassion. Neither follows from simply calling Bilbo a hero.
Keep intention, occurrence and interpretation separate. A desired outcome does not establish fulfillment. When analyzing a book, begin with its passages and the occurrences they establish. You can examine its story without creating a screenplay.
From tone to evidence, and back #
Use the four emotion axes to follow this interpretation:
- Seed: compassionate courage proposes an attitude.
- Storyline and relationship: apprehensive hope and uneasy sympathy express a reading of the risk. Gollum’s continued ability to pursue Bilbo supplies the danger.
- Action phrase: Bilbo spares Gollum, with uneasy sympathy as its intended contribution.
- For screenwriters: lines and a shot comment develop how that occurrence is told.
Read material back upward and preserve mismatches. The Level 3 worked comparison supplies two original hypothetical treatments. Overall tone describes the work’s emotional attitude. It is separate from viewers’ feelings at the start and cannot be calculated by averaging local emotions.
Compare both directions #
- State the intended meaning.
- Develop or select material.
- Read what it supports.
- Compare that reading with intention.
- Revise supported content or preserve the unresolved difference.
This is reconciliation. Structural checks validate references and roles; they cannot settle every literary judgment.
Choose a supported operation #
Realize proposes material for a selected story element through the next available development step. Reconstruct reads an account from evidence. Reconcile compares stored and proposed meaning. Connect proposes a particular relation. See the operation reference for prerequisites, previews and recovery.
